Van Gogh Inspired Collage

For this project I created tissue paper and gel medium sky. I then created lines and movement with oil pastels and sharpie markers to represent Van Gogh's style in his Starry Night piece. I then cut out a rural landscape to add to my piece.

An extension activity that I would use with this project is to have the students research Van Gogh and A Starry Night. I will ask the students to focus on the movement that he uses in this piece. I will have the students create a paper tissue collage asking half of them to use the movement that Van Gogh used and ask the other half of the class to use a completely different type of movement than Van Gogh to show that the differences in movement styles. We will then, as a class, compare and contrast, the art works and how we can use movement differently in our artwork.

Implementing art history into the classroom:

  • To implement art history into my classroom I would have the students pick their favorite artist to research. After the students have done this research I will have a "wax museum" in the classroom where the students are able to role play their favorite artist and give information about that artist.
